Official Renaming: On December 24, 1963, the airport officially became John F. Kennedy International Airport, reflecting the nation’s desire to memorialize the late president.

JFK International Airport has been a symbol of innovation, international connectivity, and American aviation progress for over 75 years. From its origins as Idlewild to its current transformation into a world-class hub, JFK reflects the evolving story of air travel and the city it serves.
